my Chinatown haul

Bought a whole bunch of stuff from Chinatown the other day! Really excited to go about sewing clothes for work. I'm pretty keen to improve my sewing skills! So I will be reading up on things, trying out new techniques, and so on. Along the way, I'll be posting up handy links I find useful and tutorials based on my own projects.

So far, I've tried out the ZIG non-permanent marker in pink (to replace my tailor's chalk, 'cause I've never been crazy about having chalky hands), and IT IS TERRIBLE. Whoa. Like for some mysterious reason the ink evaporates almost completely within 5 minutes? I mean, I get that it's supposed to be non-permanent but this is TOO non-permanent. The white one is great though, for darker fabrics especially. It goes on a bit translucent but dries to an opaque white, and can be washed off!

I also purchased printed fabrics for skirts and dresses! The last is a pastel minty green (the photo doesn't quite reflect the true colour) super soft cotton, that I will try to make a dress out of. I've decided to be a bit adventurous and step out of my comfort zone! I have always had a crazy phobia of darts and such, but I'm going to be attempting a princess seamed bodice for the green floral print. :)

Will be updating with pics of my progress! Meanwhile I'm still clearing my backlog of cheap floral cotton fabrics that I've purchased on impulse over the months. :P
